Zahabia

Former Research Assistant Intern

As a research assistant, I closely shadowed researchers every step of the way- from collecting blood from pediatric patients, to centrifuging and packaging appropriately-labeled serums that were ready for testing. In my down time, I filed and organized medical records and sanitized dosing rooms in between patient visits. I have mastered time management and picked up problem-solving and critical thinking skills that are essential all throughout life.

Internship openings are posted throughout the year. Review the details of each vacancy for important dates such as the deadline for application and the duration of the internship.
After I Apply Online When Can I Expect To Hear Back From A Recruiter?
The process begins with an initial resume screen. If the role aligns with your specialized skills, the recruiting team will reach out to you directly as soon as possible. Timing can vary and is based on multiple factors.
Can I Apply For More Than One Internship Opportunity?
Yes, you will need to fill out an application for each internship.
Do I Receive A School Credit For The Internship?
In most cases no. Internships are a wonderful compliment to a student’s on-campus studies by practicing skills learned in the classroom in a real world setting.

Internships may or may not be paid. Many are not, but some are. You will want to find this out before you accept an internship. Remember, internships are incredibly valuable in that you are gaining experience relevant to your career path.
Will I Receive Benefits As An Intern?
No, normally only full-time employees are eligible for benefits provided by the employer.
What Kind Of Schedule Will Be Required?
Internship schedules are flexible; students often plan their internship schedules around their class schedules. A part-time internship can involve anywhere between 10 and 30 hours per week. A schedule will be assigned that will work for both parties. Students on break may be able to work up to 40 hours a week.
Is An Interview Required?
DMCR will hold at least one interview, sometimes more, in order to select the most qualified individual. Some interviews may be virtual, others might be in-person.
